January 6, 2010 - Constantia, South Africa

South Africa requires yachties to clear in and out at each port they visit. So this morning we caught a ride into Cape Town with Eric and Robin on Scorpido, whom we briefly met in Indonesia. On the way into town they taught us all the shortcuts to avoid holiday traffic on the peninsula and told us about some of their favorite spots in the area.

We stopped in at Immigration and Customs. Then we headed over to the V&A Waterfront to have lunch at an outdoor cafe overlooking the harbor. As we talked with Eric and Robin we really wished that they were staying longer, but they are pushing on to Namibia as soon as the weather allows. Such is cruising friendships. You get to know people you really like and then have to say goodbye.

After lunch, on the way back to Simon's Town Eric and Robin dropped us off in Constantia so that we could meet up with some other cruising friends, Kate and Rob on s/v Muneera and their three boys, whom we became friends with in Chagos, then practically moved in with in the Seychelles. Rob is from the Cape and they have been in the area since October, visiting with family. One of the reasons we jumped on the first weather window we could was to catch up with them before they fly back to Dubai tomorrow. We arrived just in time for the adults to have afternoon tea and the kids to play monkey in the middle.
