June 18, 2007 - Pacific Crossing, Day 16

It is a beautiful day. We have been making excellent progress to the west, close to 180nm per day, running wing on wing with the yankee (our working jib) poled out to windward in 14-18 knot winds from the east. Our boat speed is averaging around 7 knots in these conditions but we have surfed at speeds up to 9.7 knots in the heavier wind/ swell conditions. We are less than 600 miles from Fatu Hiva, where we hope to make landfall by the end of the week. As we get closer to land, we are seeing more bird life. It is nice to have some company out here again.
