June 5, 2006 - Pacific Crossing, Day 3

Our first night out of Galapagos, I fed the fish. Today, it was Sten's turn to feel punky. He is feeling a bit better this evening.

We hit a 24 hour speed record on board Mata'irea yesterday - we covered 163 miles. But the wind has died down again and we are rolling SSW looking for more consistent tradewinds. Getting to the Marquesas from Galapagos requires us to travel approximately 10 degrees south and 50 degrees west. We have already completed half of our southing. We are getting anxious to find stronger wind so that we can crack off and start heading west.

The peppers we picked up in Santa Cruz were starting to go, so our big project of the day was pickling them, together with carrots, zucchini, and onions, so that we'll have some semi-fresh veggies later in the passage.
