October 25, 2007 - New Zealand Run, Day 2

We didn't quite manage to outrun the low pressure system. As the sun set and the barometer fell, the wind continued to back. To preempt the jibe that we knew was coming, we took preventative measures and put a second reef in the main and tacked the boat around. During the night (don't these things always happen at night?) the system passed over us. Sten saw gusts up to 30 knots while I was slept through the worst of it. Around 3am the wind died completely, so we turned on the engine. We are now sailing along in a stiff breeze under sunny skies.
